Voluteers to clean up after holiday

Friday, July 4, 2008 9:30 PM MST

About 30 volunteers with Keep Havasu Beautiful, the Lake Havasu City Marine Association and Green Armada will gather Monday to clean up trash left over from this weekend's revelry.

The cleanup crew will meet at 7 a.m. on the beach at Windsor Four, and more volunteers are welcome, according to Dean Barlow of Keep Havasu Beautiful. Barlow said the cleanup would last two to three hours.

Volunteers will be rewarded with donuts and t-shirts, he said.

Last year volunteers with Keep Havasu Beautiful collected about 50 bags of trash at That Beach, on the Island, and Body Beach.

This year, one crew will start at the north mouth of the Channel and work toward Crazyhorse campground. Another crew will start at Site Six and work toward That Beach, Barlow said.

For the first time the Marine Association, under the leadership of new President Jim Salscheider, will join in the effort, contributing five boats and 20 volunteers to clean up the California side of the lake south of Havasu Landing, Barlow said.

"I was really glad to see they're taking an interest in this," he said.
