Ronald G. DeVita
July 8, 1938 – Nov. 21, 2009

Ronald G. DeVita, Gino, as he was known to everyone, was born in Bronxville, N.Y., and after graduating from Tuckahoe High School, became a U.S. Marine and was honorably discharged after three years on active duty. He also served his community as a police officer for many years, before becoming a bartender.

In 1971, Gino moved his family to Tucson, where he became a restaurant and motel owner. In 1992, he moved to Lake Havasu City, where he started “Gino’s Big Burger,” a floating fast-food restaurant and convenience store in Thompson Bay on Lake Havasu.

This is where Gino made his mark, serving great food to thousands of people every year from spring break through ScatTrack (March – October). He retired in 2007, selling the boat and business, but he was back in a smaller boat selling ice and sundries in 2008. His declining health kept him off the water in 2009, but he still loved an occasional boat ride with friends.

Gino is survived by his daughter, Gina, and son, Ron Jr., both of Tucson. He is also survived by his Havasu family, Jeff and Tara Wyneken, and their sons Ray and Ryan McEuen, who both worked summers for Gino, and now serve in the U.S. Air Force. Gino spent his last few months under the care of Hospice of Havasu, and his last 12 days at Polidori House, where he received very compassionate and loving care.

There will be a private memorial service held at a later date. Gino will always be remembered, especially for his generosity and great sense of humor. He was a good friend and father, believed in God and country, and was one of those “few good men.” Semper Fidelis, Gino!

Condolences and thoughts can be made to his family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com.

Arrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
