Kevin Allen Polka, 55, lost his battle with cancer Dec. 12, in Flagstaff. He and his fraternal twin sister, Mary Ann, were born May 17, 1954, in Rock Island, Ill., to William and Helen Polka.

In 1969, the entire family moved to Lake Havasu City where Kevin graduated from high school in 1972. Kevin’s career path was as varied as his travels. He worked in construction in Arizona and Iowa, surveying and utility work in Colorado, mining in New Mexico and Arizona, bartending, and finally as a ticketing agent for AMTRAK in Flagstaff. It was at AMTRAK that he found his calling in serving people on a personal and professional level, where he will be missed.

Kevin enjoyed camping, water skiing, hiking, horseback riding, hunting, motorcycle riding, fishing, watching sports as well as playing great practical jokes. In the last few years, Kevin has enjoyed traveling around the world, living in Russia for a year, seeing Europe, North Africa as well as taking cruises in the Caribbean, Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii.

He is survived by his mother, Helen Polka, of Lake Havasu City; sons, Dustin, of Hereford, and Allen, of Manhattan, N.Y.; brothers, David, of Lake Havasu City, and Jeffery, of Umpqua, Ore.; and twin sister, Mary Ann Smith, of Punta Gorda, Fla.; plus grandson, Owen; and many friends. He is preceded in death by his father, William.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Olivia White Hospice Center, P.O. Box 997, Flagstaff, AZ, 86002.
