Manuel P. Borba, 88, of Lake Havasu City, passed away Dec. 30.

Services were held at Desert Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery in Mohave Valley, Jan. 2.

Manuel was born Nov. 20, 1921, to Mary and Manuel Borba, in Hanford, Calif. He grew up in San Luis Obispo and Atascadero, Calif. He proudly served in the Army during World War II, was wounded and received the Purple Heart. After he returned home, he met and married Lathern Carpenter. They moved to Bakersfield, Calif., and raised two children there while working for the Southern Pacific Railroad. He retired from the railroad in 1981, when he and Lathern moved to Bullhead City. Manual spent his last months at Lakeview Terrace Memory Care, in Lake Havasu City. His family is so thankful for the wonderful care and love he received there.

Manual is survived by his brother, Robert Borba, of Atascadero, Calif.; his daughter, Pat Ringgenberg, of Lake Havasu City; his son, Mike Borba, of Hidden Valley Lake, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Manuel was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Lathern Borba; his sister, Mayjane Rooney; and his parents.

Manuel enjoyed fishing, camping and listening to baseball games. He was such a generous and unselfish man who was always ready to help out neighbors, friends, and family. He was a man of faith who truly had a servant’s heart. Manuel was a devoted husband and father. Dad, we will miss you so much.

The Broken Chain

We little knew that morning; God would call your name. In life we loved you dearly, in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you; you did not go alone, for part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us many memories, your love is still our guide, and though we cannot see you, you’re always by our side. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
