Gerald (Gerry) Jay Snow, 82, died in Lake Havasu City Jan. 15. Gerry was born on July 11, 1927 to Isaac and Etta (Berry) Snow in Moscow, Idaho.

The Snow family homesteaded in the Moscow area in 1877, and Gerald and his brothers continued to farm in the area. Gerald served on many community boards, commissions and civil committees throughout his life.

He was a life member of the Elks and loyal Vandal Booster, serving as president of the Vandal Boosters and named Vandal Booster of the year. His love of the Vandals was so great that he submitted to a public hair perm on a bet in order to raise $5,000 for the Vandal Boosters. He set up an endowment for the University of Idaho Vandal Scholarship Fund in the name of his late son and wife, Jerry and Norma Snow.

After retirement, Gerry made his home in Caldwell, Idaho, where he met and married his beloved wife, Trini Moad Snow.

In his retirement, Gerry never missed a Vandal football game. He enjoyed growing his tomatoes, winters in Arizona, golfing, fishing and spending time with friends. He traveled extensively to Alaska, New Zealand and Hawaii.

Gerry developed a fondness for the Basque people of Idaho and truly cherished his trip to their homeland in Spain where he overindulged in the native chorizos.

At the end of World War II, Gerry graduated from high school early to join the Navy and upon completing service attended the University of Idaho, kicking off a lifelong love of the U of I.

Gerry was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Orval, Raymond, Floyd and Howard; his wives, Norma Fay Snow, Marge Kincaid Snow; a son, Jerry Snow; and stepson, Sam Moad.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Trini Moad Snow; a son, Michael (Cindy) Snow; a daughter, Maureen (Jay) Jackson; stepsons, Bill, Mike and Pete Moad; 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Two memorial services are planned. There will be a service at 2 p.m., Jan. 28, at the Nampa Funeral Home, Yraguen Chapel in Nampa. On April 23, a service will be held in Moscow, Idaho, at Short’s Funeral Chapel and will be followed by a graveside service at the Moscow Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be sent to University of Idaho Vandal Scholarship Fund at P.O. Box 442302, Moscow, ID 83844 or Caldwell Euzkaldunak Basque Charity at P.O. Box 258, Huston, ID 83630.
