David L. Jones passed away at his home Monday with his family by his side following a brief bout of pancreatic cancer. David was born Oct. 7, 1932, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Olin and Ruth (Allin) Jones, but spent his early years in Byron, Wyo.

Following high school graduation, David began his career as a pipe fitter-steamfitter. He put his career on hold and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, proudly serving his country for four years aboard the USS Sphinx. He enlisted on Dec. 11, 1951, and received his honorable discharge on Dec. 6, 1955. During his stint in the military, he married his high school sweetheart Mary Lou Hankins in 1953.

He then resumed his career, following his father’s footsteps working for Local 250 until he retired in 1998, and received his 50-year pin in 2008.

David is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Mary Lou; their three children, Sherry Brean, Cindi Butkus and Mike Jones; grandchildren, Kristin and Robert Brean, and Trevor Butkus; great-granddaughter, Madison Brean; brothers, Larry, Burton, Orin and Tyrone Jones; sisters, Yvonne Rodriguez, Marilyn Tasso, Nita Soltau, Mary Lou Dokken, Brenda Shortall, Marian Jones; and his extended family.

David was a family man, taking his family and friends to the Salton Sea, camping and boating for many years. He also was involved in Pop Warner Football as league equipment manager and coach of both football and baseball for his son. David was an avid sports fan and his favorite passions were NASCAR racing and the California Angels.

Every Friday night since moving to Lake Havasu City 12 years ago, he would join his special group of friends for dinner. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends he made over the years.

A celebration of David’s life will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home. Military honors and interment will be Feb. 2, at 12:40 p.m., at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City, NV.

Thoughts and condolences may be submitted to the family at www.lietz-frazefuneralhome.com.

Arrangements were placed under the care of Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home and Crematory.
