July 6, 1930 – Jan. 31, 2010

Carolyn E. (Utz) Gurney, 79, passed away Jan. 31, at home in Lake Havasu City. Carolyn was born July 6, 1930, in Attica, Ohio, to Ivan and Alberta Utz.

She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was primarily a homemaker throughout her adult life, but was also a full-time farmer’s wife helping to keep the farm running in whatever capacity was needed. She also worked as a public school secretary for a short period of time.

Her love, compassion and dedication to her family and friends carried her through her life. She was a devoted wife who thought more about the needs of her disabled husband and others than herself. She enjoyed helping others, eating out, traveling, feeding the birds and playing Dominos with friends. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and making special projects just for them.

Carolyn, along with her late husband, Lloyd, moved to Lake Havasu City in 1988 from Attica, Ohio. They built a wonderful relationship with many people in town. They enjoyed square and round dancing. They were both members of the Oro Grande Church of Christ.

Carolyn’s husband, Lloyd, passed away Jan. 5. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October. Carolyn is survived by four children; Sandy (Randy) Winland, Roger (Pat) Gurney, Doug (Mary) Gurney, and Nancy (Roger) Schneider; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; three brothers, Kenneth (Shirley) Utz, Weldon Utz, Charles (Linda) Utz; and many nieces and nephews.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her husband, mother, father, and one brother.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Church of Christ-Oro Grande on Oro Grande Boulevard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Havasu, 365 S. Lake Havasu Ave., Lake Havasu City, AZ 86403 or Church of Christ-Oro Grande, 3439 Oro Grande Blvd., Lake Havasu City, AZ 86406 .

Arrangements were entrusted to Lake Havasu Mortuary and Crematory. Thoughts and condolences can be sent to the family at lakehavasumortuary.com
