Soldotna, Ala., resident Lynda Joyce Monahan-Cann died Feb. 2, at Heritage Place in Soldotna. She was 54.

A private family viewing was held at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai, Ala., followed by cremation.

Ms. Monahas-Cann was born Feb. 26, 1955, in Montgomery, Ala. She moved with her family to Alaska in 1962. She graduated from Kenai Central High School. She also received her associate’s degree in interior decorating. She moved to Lake Havasu City in 1982, where she worked at several different businesses as a bookkeeper. She returned to Soldotna in 2003.

Ms. Monahan-Cann attended Calvary Baptist Church in Kenai. She also was a member of the Soroptimist International of Lake Havasu City for several years. She was president of Soroptimist from 1987-1989 and treasurer for four years.

She enjoyed jogging, riding bicycles, water sports and macramé.

“Lynda devoted her life and her love to her family and most especially to her son, Korey. She also held a special place in her heart for her parents, John and Joan.

“Before her prolonged illness, Lynda was filled with joy and she loved to laugh. We will miss that laugh and her love, but we are grateful that she has gone to meet her Heavenly Lord, at last,” her family said.

Ms. Monahan-Cann was preceded in death by her mother, Joan Wood; and a nephew, Ryan Wood.

She is survived by her son, Korey Monahan-Cann, of Flagstaff; her father, John Wood, of Soldotna; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rick and Laurie Wood, of Soldotna, and Scott and Pam Wood, of Kenai; aunt, Betty Peterson, of Soldotna; cousin, Jeanette King and husband, Randy, of Soldotna; and numerous other aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
