Following a successful spring break season, a California-based group is looking to come back for more — but possibly year round for the next five to 10 years.
“We are very close to something big,” Jaenichen said. “My whole goal has always been a long-term deal in Lake Havasu City. Our customers that have been there in the past have loved it so it’s always been in our interest.”
The SWAT group brought more than 3,000 college-aged students to Lake Havasu City in March and April, according to the release, and recently ran a smaller, 200-person trip to the city.
“Taking advantage of SWAT’s customized ‘Weekender’ options, 200 students from the University of California, Irvine, embarked on a three day, two night adventure at the Island Inn Hotel, featuring pool parties on the property and night events including parties on the beach and at Kokomo,” according to the release.
“The Weekender trip is perfect for groups who want a smaller trip and who want to have events and themes catered around their interests,” said Jaenichen in the release. “We’ve begun to reach out to groups throughout California, Arizona and Nevada and make them aware that SWAT’s resources in Havasu are at their disposal.”
While in Lake Havasu City, Jaenichen met with representatives from the Nautical Beachfront Resort, London Bridge Resort, Island Inn Hotel, Quality Inn & Suites, Days Inn, Lake Havasu City Police Department, Lake Havasu Hospitality Association, and Kokomo’s to present them with plaques in appreciation of their support for SWAT’s Spring Break 2010 program, according to the release.
LHHA Executive Director Greg Tryon said SWAT’s addition to spring break this year “made a huge difference and brought a lot to the community.”
“All I can say is that I think it was awesome what they did,” Tryon said. “I look forward to working with them year round if we can. If they could do year round what they did for spring break that would be an amazing thing for this community.”
Jaenichen said he believes the growth potential is roughly 50 percent of the group’s past sales numbers, equaling approximately 4,500 travelers for Spring Break 2011, in addition to the 1,000 to 3,000 travelers attending customized Weekenders.
“By providing its students with so many options and opportunities, SWAT’s future is Lake Havasu is endless,” according to a SWAT representative in the release.
“Throughout the last year, we’ve really developed some great relationships in Havasu,” Jaenichen said. “We’ve gotten so much support from the hotels, community, and local officials that it’s been nothing but a pleasure to work with the area. Our special thanks go to the Lake Havasu City Police Department for their willingness to work with SWAT and for conducting such great operations in conjunction with our private security and on-site management teams.”
SWAT was formed in 1997 by “an experienced group of friends who shared the same vision and passion for the travel, entertainment, and action sports industry,” according to the company’s Web site. “That vision is to provide our customers with the highest quality trips and best vacation spots. SWAT is a leader in the student travel industry providing specialized ski/snowboarding, spring break, and graduation trips.”
