PARKER — The sights and sounds of fast, powerful speedboats filled the air Saturday on the Colorado River near Parker for the sixth annual BlueWater Resort & Casino 300 Enduro, a 50-lap race on a six-mile course designed to test racers and their machines.

Veteran racers Greg Cluck and Mike Noble were the overall winners in Boat No. 113. They were also the top drivers in Division II. They won the Marion Beaver Cup, which is awarded to the overall winner each year. The award is named after the man who started the original Enduro race in the early 1960s. Beaver was a world champion boat racer who was responsible for bringing boat racing to Parker. He passed away in 2007.

Coming in second overall were Randy Davis, Gordon Jennings and Billy Dunsmore in Boat No. 192. Placing third overall were Keith Hiebert and Gary Garland in Boat No. 369. Fourth place overall went to Boat No. 44, the “Armenian Navy,” which was driven by Darrin Sousmian, Darrin Sousan, Aaron Siroonian and Paul Fitzgerald. Rounding out the top five were Fred Bowder, Greg Foster, and Al Stoker in Boat No. 34.

At the awards ceremony Saturday evening at the BlueWater, Ross Wallach of the Southern California Speedboat Club and RPM Enterprises thanked everyone who participated in the race, including racers, families and crews. He said 33 boats started the race, while 25 finished it.

“Attrition does play a role,” he said.

One accident occurred during the race. Veteran racer Don Blair, who drove Boat No. 555, was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Las Vegas. Wallach reported Saturday evening that he was resting and was expected to make a full recovery. Blair is a two-time Enduro class winner.

The BlueWater Resort & Casino 300 Enduro is presented by Nordic Boats, Ecology Auto Parts, Teague Custom Marine, LV Construction, PCI Radios, Frank Marrone & Sons Plumbing, and Bingham Equipment Rentals.

" The driver of the 555 boat was Joe Abellera. He broke all but one of his ribs, had to have a lung inflated, and fractured his T9&10 vertabrae. He is having spinal surgery today in Las Vegas. This is from Joe's sister. "
