PARKER — The Broncs basketball team got off to a fast start against the River Valley Dust Devils Tuesday night in Parker and they never looked back. After scoring 25 points in the first quarter, Parker went on to a 65-26 win.

Parker’s 25-point outburst in the first quarter was led by forward Jamil Gary, who scored 15 points in the quarter. That would be his total number of points for the game.

The Broncs sent in their junior varsity to close out the fourth quarter after building up a 49-point lead up to that point.

Roman Leon’s 16 points led Parker, and Gary’s 15 points made him the second highest. Cody Hill and Michael Carter Jr. each scored 10 points. Carter’s points came on a pair of three-pointers and four free throws. David Pasillas added 8 more for the Broncs.

For River Valley, Ryan Wright scored 12 points. John Gutierrez scored 7, and Skyler Palmer had 5.

Noting the Broncs had a close one against Yuma Catholic Monday night, Parker Coach Kyle Peta said the difference was the Broncs’ improved their shooting.

“We made out shots tonight,” he said. “That made the difference.”

Peta said the Broncs have two more tough games this week, against Yuma High School on Thursday and Lake Havasu on Friday.

“We have to play tough on defense,” he said. “That’s how we’ll win.”

River Valley Head Coach James Acton said his team was down two players, but added that Parker was a good team. He praised the Dust Devils for making the effort they did.

“They never gave up,” he said. “I’m proud of their effort.”

The Broncs are now 11-0 in AIA power point games. They’ll play Yuma High School at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in Yuma. They’ll be at home Friday night when they face the Lake Havasu Fighting Knights. Game time is 7 p.m.

The Dust Devils are 5-11 overall. Their next outing will be Thursday, Jan. 19 in Williams.
